HDB is the abbreviation of Housing and Development Board and it is the public housing Authority board of Singapore, which is engaged in the activity of providing quality homes and flats to the people of Singapore through various development plans and programs
After the independence of Singapore, the country was very poor and many people were living in slums and unhygienic places. The Government set up the Housing and development board in 1960, with the sole aim of providing houses of good quality in affordable prices for the people of Singapore. HDB has introduced lots of plans for the benefit of the people like the Home ownership for the People scheme in 1964, which allowed the citizens of Singapore to own houses in Singapore. The Use of CPF for Public Housing plan in 1968, which allowed the use of CPF savings to buy houses by the people and many other plans to help in the development of the citizens of Singapore. It also provides housing loans and financial aids for people, who are willing to purchase flats under HDB.
HDB has played an important role in providing the people of Singapore with Quality homes ensuring Cost effectiveness and Quality standards through active research and development programs. It strives hard to ensure good livelihood for the residents of HDB homes by providing them with all the facilities according to their requirements. It also engages in renewal and up gradation programs to provide new facilities and features for the changing living standards of the people. It also actively engages in maintaining the national objective like racial harmony and oneness by providing the people with community spaces to bring the people of different communities to come closer and interact with each other, hence building friendly relationships between them.
There are also Quota schemes for ethnicities to shift into an HDB flat. The Singapore government has strict enforcements to decide who should own and move into a HDB flat or house. It makes sure that there is a certain ratio of ethnicities in HDB blocks according to their nationality and move in and move out should adhere to these policies. These policies are basically, to bring racial harmony between races of people and to prevent homogeneous racial blocks.
HDB also allows provides convention centers, Mall facilities and learning centers for the benefits of the residents. It also provides facilities to use HDB homes has commercial offices and for business registration. HDB actively plans and executes many housing programs in various parts of Singapore like Ang Mo Kio, Bukit Merah, Bukit Butok, Bukit Temah, Bukit Panjang, Geylang, Tao Payoh, Woodlands and several other places. It is always striving hard for the development of the people of Singapore.
