Bukit Merah means ‘red hill’ in Malay, the name was derived from the hilly village Malay kampung made of red soil. There are number of historic sites in Bukit Merah like the Keppel Harbor which was established way back in 14th century and it was then known as Lung-Ya-Men, the Dragon Teeth etc. in the past this island was simply a fishing village peoples of here were frequently suffered with sword fish attack.
