Bukit Timah is a hill in Singapore has an altitude of 164 meters and is the highest point of the city-state Singapore; it is located near the center of the state of Singapore Island. The area surrounding the Bukit Timah comes under urban planning area and is known as Bukit Timah Urban Planning Area which comes under Urban Redevelopment Authority which is a part of Central Region which is situated 10km away from the central business district, the Central Area. This area is mostly referred to Bukit Timah and is popularly known as District 11.
Bukit Timah means ‘tin bearing hill” in Malay and is known as ‘eyam malaise (tin hill)’ in Tamil, some stories about the name also suggest that the word Timah was derived from the Temak tree which was found abundantly in the area. Bukit Timah was explored by Franklin and Jackson in way back in 1828.
Bukit Timah is famous for its natural reserve popularly known as Bukit Timah Natural Reserve. Bukit Timah is origin for many condominiums, top-ranked school and landed property in Singapore. It has population of about 78,000 and is spread in the area of 18 sq km. Around 1960s and 1970 Bukit Timah was a major industrial hub of Singapore, today there are luxury bungalows, condominiums and terraces which together make Bukit Timah as a premier residential area of Singapore.
The Bukit Timah Natural Reserve is spread in an area of 1.64 sq km and this natural reserve is at geographic center of the city-state Singapore which is located on the slope of Bukit Timah hills and the surrounding area. Though it has spread on small area, but it is considered as a productive piece of nature it has more than 800 species of flowering plants and more than 500 species of fauna, it is considered to be one of the largest rainforests existing in Singapore.

The Bukit Timah Satellite Earth Satiation was the first satellite earth of Singapore, this station is located Bukit Timah near Chantek flyover which is situated between Pan Island Expressway and the Bukit Timah Expressway. The station is managed by SingTel of Singapore and is in operation since 1986.
