From 1957 till the early 1960s, the Malay settlement here became known as the west coast Malay settlement, and these areas consisted many Malay-fishing villages. The costal area at pasir panjang extends to the port of Singapore. During the World War II, the battle of pasir panjang was fought on the slopes of pasir panjang, now it is a Kent ridge park. There are some highlights of pasir panjang some are Pasir Panjang Road it stats from Alexandra Road, and continues to clement Road where it become a west coast road. It is the secondary road and has less traffic after building the West Coast Highway
