Jurong East Newtown is a Newtown which is located in the western part of Singapore and is built is Housing Development Board. The total area of Jurong East is 17 sq km and it has a population of about 90,000 peoples, more than 43% of it land is used in residential purpose. The Jurong East Newtown had 26,000 units of HDB flats and most of them are 4-roomed and 3- roomed flats. There are also executive flats here in Jurong East and whose count is about 18,000 units. The main residential area of Jurong East is along the Jurong River as the industrial area is out of this phase.
Once upon a time Jurong was hilly area with crocodile filled lakes and fish ponds, it was also a hilly jungle. The launch of industrial programme in 1961 selected Jurong as the site for the first industrial estate of Singapore, so the hills were leveled, lakes and ponds were filled and land was reclaimed for the first ever industrial estate of Singapore. For the workers in the industrial area of Jurong the housing estates started to build in Jurong and slowly the other amenities also started to build up.
At present both the Jurong East and Jurong West are busiest centers of Singapore, there are many tourists’ spots in Jurong East like the Science City Singapore, Snow city to the massive shopping cum entertainment like Jurong entertainment center and the International Merchandise Mart (IMM). There are many green parks which one can find in the Jurong East like the Jurong Park, Jurong country club and the most favorite Chinese and Japanese gardens.
There is also wide range of sports facilities available here which include the Jurong East Stadium, Jurong East sports and cultural complex and Jurong East swimming center.

The Jurong East Newtown is mainly served by Jurong East MRT station which is as the East West of the Mass Rapid Transit System and the Chinese Garden MRT station, the town is also served by Jurong East Bus interchange. The prominent bus services from the Jurong East Bus Interchange are the Trunk Service, Feeder Service, SMRT, Night Service and other services.
