Queens town is one of the early housing estates of Singapore it was built even before Ang Mo Kio and Toa Payoh and it was beginning projects of Singapore’s public housing. Queenstown is located in the central-western end of the island and is at a distance of 5 to 8 km from the city.
Queenstown was developed by Singapore Improvement Trust (SIT) in 1950s and later in 1960s when Housing Development Board (HDB) was formed it overtook the development of Queenstown from SIT. Queenstown is the first satellite town of Singapore; it has the area of 6.67 sq km, out of which the area under residential purpose is about 2.06 sq km. major development was dome during first five year plan from 1960-65 in which more than 19,732 units were constructed by HDB and had simple 1, 2, 3 roomed flats. The success of the Queenstown housing estate gave rise to the neighboring areas development and those areas were Bouna Vista and Holland Village.
With a population of more than 94,900 Queenstown is named after Queen Elizabeth who was new monarch in 1953. Queen was the head of the sate of Singapore until it attained independence from the British colonial masters in 1965 before world war 2 Queenstown was mainly agricultural area here the people livelihood was basically on vegetable farming and pig farming.

Queenstown from than onwards continued to develop as a self-sustained community some of the amenities developed during this period were Town center and swimming and sports complex and both of these were completed by 1969. There were also three cinema halls, emporiums, fresh food market, maternity and child health care center, nightclub and bowling alley. Queenstown by then became a model for other new town to develop in Singapore.
There is a unique park in Queenstown which has more than 1,000 statues of Chinese mythological character Hawa Par Villa which provides both Chinese and local tourists with fascinating Chinese folk history and culture.
