What is HDB? In Singapore , HDB stands for HOUSING AND DEVELOPMENT BOARD and public housing which come under this umbrella is called HDB.


HDB is responsible for building and the maintenance of the houses and is occupied by many communities. Singaporeans alone occupy 80-85% of the houses. It is available to both citizens and non-citizens and they may directly rent the accommodation they need, whether it's a flat or a room or with help from an Agent such as We will be glad to help you rent the accommodation you look for directly from the owners of HDB flats as well.


HDB also has a scheme to provide deprived and underprivileged citizens of Singapore with subsidized rental flats. They have to prove their eligibility to take advantage of this scheme according to HDB policies.

Purchasing a HDB flat is not that easy. Even before you see one, there are many issues you need to resolve to help you decide.


• What area suits you best to buy a flat?
• What is the extent of accommodation with regards to the number of rooms?
• What kind of budget can you afford?
• What is the distance to your office?
• Are there nearby schools your child could attend? • What type of public transport facilities are available within easy reach?
• How far away is the city centre? • Are there any shopping centers nearby?

If you are a Foreigner who holds a Singapore 'Permanent Residency' (PR) or 'Citizenship' status, you too can also purchase a HDB apartment directly from the HOUSING AND DEVELOPMENT BOARD or through the sales markets.


What qualifies me to be eligible to the HDB scheme?


• The Applicant should either be a citizen of Singapore or PR who has one other sibling at least who is also a PR.
• Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
• Applicants must form a family nucleus - either married or intending to get married; or with parents, siblings and/or children.
• The combined income of all persons in the application must not exceed S$8,000 a month in order to qualify for a CPF Housing Grant.

HDB flats are available in units of two, three, four, five and six bedrooms. Remember the living lounge too is counted as a room.

The rates of these flats depend on where they are located and their size. These HDB flats are designed for the community with safety and convenience in mind. HDB townships are equipped with numerous recreational, commercial, and community services and facilities. The later designs of HDB are with new features, more facilities and improvements to old designs meeting their client's needs of modern times.


Selling an HDB flat

The HDB flat owner will have to fulfill the eligibility requirements in order to sell:


• Flat owners wanting to offer their flat for sale are required to have completed their minimum occupation time as stipulated before they.
• You are also required to meet the stipulated limits of the EIP
• All financial payments should be settled before the completion of the resale transaction, and they are:

1. Any outstanding mortgage loan
2. Resale levy
3. Upgrading cost
4. Upgrading levy
5. Property tax
6. Service and conservancy charges

• Flat owners must regularize any unauthorized renovation before the resale. It could affect your lease infringements.

• Take note of the CPF rules
